30 years in the saddle, with no signs of slowing down

After more than 30 years in the saddle, King Price Xtreme’s Clint Seller shows no signs of slowing down

The first time Seller got onto a motorbike, his father had to replace the bike seat with a piece of sponge so that his 3-year-old feet could touch the ground. It was the start of a lifelong love affair with motorbikes. More than 30 years and 9 SA titles later, his passion is burning stronger than ever.

In fact, the King Price Xtreme team leader’s main goal for 2023 is to wrap up his tenth SA Ultimate Superbike Championship title.

The story could’ve been totally different, though. If Seller’s father had his way, he would’ve been racing on 4 wheels.

‘My dad was a car racer and wanted me to follow in his footsteps. When I was 7, he got me into go-karting. But when I was 12, I told him I liked motorbikes more. Awkward. But the next year, he gave me 1 of his road bikes to go around Kyalami. At 14, he bought me a 600cc motorcycle. That was nearly 19 years ago, and I’ve been racing bikes ever since,’ says Seller.

Seller spent a few years racing professionally in the United States, winning an American national endurance title in 2010, before heading back to South Africa. He promptly celebrated his return by winning the SA 600cc title in 2012, and it was the first in what was to become a string of national titles.

Maybe it was a mere coincidence that he started dating his wife at the start of 2013. Suffice it to say, it kick-started an astonishing sequence of success on the track, as he was crowned SA’s superbike champion in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

He repeated his success in 2017 and 2019. Even more impressive is that this resulted in him stringing together a sequence of title wins in 2020, 2021, and 2022! Of course, he realises this has placed a massive bullseye on his back. But he’s more committed than ever to working harder and keeping the winning momentum going.

While he plans on doing at least 3 overseas road race rounds in 2023, his top priority will always be his King Price Xtreme team. He cites his helmet as 1 of the prized possessions in his gear, and we must admit that the big wing does look very cool.

Will being a family man see this adrenaline junkie start easing off? Not likely. His wife is his number 1 fan. Besides, he has to make his title wins an even number and focus on mentoring new talent joining the Xtreme team. 2023, we’re ready!
