Adriaan Roets

Adriaan Roets: Navigating the course to victory

Even though 28-year-old Rustenburg native Adriaan Roets excelled at athletics and rugby throughout school (representing North West and joining the Leopard regional rugby team) it’s in motorsport where his true passion lies.

Adriaan has been navigating for Lance Trethewey in class A, driving a BAT Venom since 2018 (when they began their formidable partnership in Dundee). Together, they emerged as champions of the 2019 South African National Cross-Country Series (SACCS) and are currently leading the 2021 edition after being undefeated in the opening 2 rounds.

He first cut his teeth navigating for his father at the tender age of 16, and has been keeping his eye on the track ever since. It’s a responsibility he doesn’t take lightly. After all, if he makes a mistake, Lance goes in the wrong direction and they lose. It really is as simple as that. Fortunately, there’s absolute trust between the 2, with Adriaan keeping Lance pointed in the right direction.

Even though he loves racing, Adriaan is the typical South African ‘boer seun’ with interests in farming, fishing, hunting, and camping. He’s a keen CrossFitter and enjoys playing squash and rebuilding cars.

Of course, when Adriaan’s on the track, it’s all about racing to win.  In fact, he wants to walk away with another SACCS win in 2021 and finish the Dakar next year in the top 20! His 1 piece of advice to other hopefuls out there? Always be humble and have fun with whatever you decide to do.
